This trombonist who played with Fats Waller and Louis Armstrong, among others, invented an instrument called "slide saxophone" in 1926. With it he recorded some exciting Big Band Jazz with some Boogie thrown in and some early R&B hints. Recordings from 1940-1949, when he recorded for Decca, Sonora and Penguin.
