This South Carolina pianist started his own orchestra in 1939, after returning from a european tour with the Cotton Club Revue (who were expelled from nazi Germany!). He made a big part of his career with his sister Ella as the main singer. He also peeked into the R&B sound and found success with his Big Band. Stuff culled from 1942-1961 sessions.
