Despite his brilliant career, this R&B singer has been often overlooked. He was with Richard Berry in the Flairs in the early 50's, then he did some solo recordings for a while, teamed up with the Coasters between 1957 and 1959, and went back to solo work with the help of the former Little Richard and Sam Cooke producer/arranger "Bumps" Blackwell during the first half of the 60's. Impressive indeed. This CD compiles his recordings for the Modern label between 1953 and 1957, featuring some of his biggest hits and a couple of unreleased cuts. Twenty three tracks.
