After a career lasting close to four decades, it was only two years ago when Greg decided to launch his first solo record: the celebrated "Mississippi Murderer, an album where Delta blues and hi-energy R&R were combined in a masterful mix heavily influenced by the likes of the Stones, the Yardbirds and NY Dolls. This recording has become a cult classic, but the ever adventurous Prevost is now back with a brand new artifact: "Universal Vagrant". This second album goes one step further than his previous waxing and can be safely described as the best recording in his long and illustrious career. It also confirms what those in the know already knew: the fact that he is a top-notch songwriter, one of the coolest R&R singers ever, and that he has a deep understanding of the roots of his music...be them the original blues greats ("Moanin' The Blues", "Mean Red Spider"); the personal idols inscribed in his DNA, Keith Richards and Johnny Thunders ("Gin Soaked Time Warp", "Shot of Rock and Roll", or the superb, gospel-oriented "Lord Shine a Light on Me"), as well as the dark, dangerous Stooges-infused sounds ("Evil On My Mind" or his killer version of "Codine"). Here you have the results: a perfect production, an explosive sound, a recording cooked with ease and among friends, but with edge, attitude and sheer class. Prevost ataca de nuevo con un excepcional nuevo trabajo.Universal Vagrant, su segunda entrega, mejora como era de esperar a su antecesor -de hecho, quien ya ha escuchado el disco asegura que es de lejos el mejor trabajo de su carrera- y confirma algo de sobras conocido: que es un gran compositor y que conoce como nadie las raíces de su música, además de poseer una de las voces más cool de este asunto llamado rock and roll. En este disco sigue rindiendo homenaje a sus héroes y muestra sus influencias más seminales, ya sea de los grandes del Blues original (Moanin' The Blues", "Mean Red Spider"), su ídolos personales, parte ya de su ADN: Keith Richards y Johhny Thunders ("Gin Soaked Time Warp", "Shot of Rock and Roll" o la espectacular "Lord Shine a Light on Me" de orientación gospel) , sin olvidar el lado oscuro y peligroso del punk psicodélico de escuela Stooge ("Evil On My Mind" o la increíble versión de "Codine"). Un disco con un sonido y producción simplemente perfectos, rebosante de elegantes arreglos y una actitud y una clase de las que simplemente ya no se encuentran. Un trabajo, como el anterior, cocinado con calma y hecho con amigos....pero no te equivoques, eso no le resta ni una pizca de actitud ni de inmediatez. Estamos hablando un discazo de R&R con canciones como la copa de un pino donde todas y cada una las piezas encajan a la perfección.
